How to Customize Start Menu Of Windows 10

Sunday, 26 November 2017 by fureyboy

Hooray, Windows 10 has a Start menu.In fact, Windows 10 marks the return of the Start menu.Microsoft removed this classic feature of Windows with the launch of Windows 8, when the company introduced a home screen that covers your entire screen. If it looked great on the shelves, some people have found that it was not appropriate for laptops and desktops.

It is perhaps not the Start menu you hoped (users from Windows 7, I think of you), but it is there, and easily customizable. You can change the colors, the effect of transparency, size and position of the tiles. If you do not want the tiled interface, you can disable this feature and have a simple menu with Windows appearance 7. Here’s what you can do.

The Start menu can be resized by clicking and dragging on the edge of the menu. You can pull up or sideways. Therefore, tile groups will automatically reposition.

The tiles themselves can be resized by the context menu visible when right-clicking on one of them. They can be small, medium, large, or large, and you can animate or not live tiles (Lives Tiles).

Adverse tiles can be removed. In the withdrawing all, you will end up with a very basic Start menu that takes a fraction of the space, and resembles that of Windows 7. If you want to put some tiles, go to All applications, right-click on each application you want to reappear, and select “Pin to Taskbar”.

You can rearrange the tiles by dragging them from the menu, and also sort them into groups. To edit a group name, move your mouse over and click.

You can customize the appearance and behavior of the Start menu by going to “Settings”, and clicking “Customize” and selecting “Start”.From here you can switch on or off the following options:

  • view the most used applications
  • view recently added applications
  • use the Start menu in full screen
  • display recently opened items in Jump Lists from the Home screen or the taskbar.
  • You can also choose the folders that appear on the Start menu.

Select “Colors” from the “Customize” menu, and you can enable or disable the automatic feature that automatically chooses the color theme from my background. When disabled, Windows will display a grid of colors that you can use instead.Select one of them, and you will have an overview over. The color will also be applied to Windows, so you can see the changes.
Scroll down, and you can choose whether to display this color to the Start menu, the taskbar and the center of notifications. If you disable this option, you will have the standard dark theme. Finally, the screen “Colors” also allows you to enable or disable the transparency of the Start menu, the taskbar and the center of notifications.

All changes are immediately visible, you do not need to click an “Apply” link or button to validate.

How to Set the Default Applications of Windows 10

Sunday, 26 November 2017 by fureyboy
Applications of Windows 10

Microsoft has introduced some changes to the way Windows handles the default applications. So, if you want Windows 10 uses VLC as your default media player, and Firefox is your default Web browser, what should you do?While it is easy to click a button, the process is not as trivial as it looks.

Also, if you update your Windows 7 device or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, and you want to keep your existing applications by default, make sure not to accept the use of the Microsoft default settings.Indeed, this action will automatically default to replace your current applications, and Microsoft Edge set as your default Web browser, and the suite Microsoft Photo, Microsoft and Microsoft Music Movies and TV shows will replace all the applications you have defined by the past on your old copy of Windows. But if you do not apply the quick configuration, you can deselect them, and keep intact your preferences and affinities.

The CEO of Mozilla, Chris Beard, has even complained that Edge arrives the fact as the default Web browser, and does not also taking into account the preference of the user on the previous operating system. He said that it was anti-competitive.He wrote an open letter to Microsoft about this problem, and the company also notes that it takes several steps to change your default Web browser after Windows 10 is installed.

Task Manager

It is true that applications like Firefox that ask you if you want to set your default settings the first time you launch the will now guide you through some additional steps before the change takes effect. But know that if you want the process to be faster, you will be able to change your default settings rather quickly.

Just type “Default Application” in the Windows search bar and choose the option: “Default Application Settings.”From there, you will see a list of default values for:

  • Calendar
  • E-mail
  • Cards
  • Music player
  • Photo Viewer
  • Video player
  • Web Browser

At the bottom of this screen, you will also see options to “select the default applications by file type” or “per protocol.”These provide more detailed menus that allow you to associate files with.mp3 a specific application, and files .mp4with another, for example.Or, you can configure your application to FTP links that open the default FTP or FTPS protocol. Finally, there are the “Set default values by applying” which gives you, even more, control over the applications that can open files.

Mozilla is perhaps why many people will choose the specific settings during the initial setup of Windows 10 and find that the default settings have been changed. But there is still a chance to go back.
